February 11, 1920 – Tirana declared the Provisional Capital of Albania
The end of World War I left Albania politically unstable, with various factions fighting for political power. With the aim of uniting Albanians into a single government, on 20 January 1920, patriots from all over Albania gathered in Lushnje to discuss the country’s future. Since the Government of Durres, at that time the capital of Albania, was opposed to the Lushnja Congress, on February 9, 1920, members of Congress declared Tirana as the provisional capital of their Government. They entered Tirana on 11 February 1920 and from that day Tirana would always be the capital of Albanians, becoming the permanent capital with an act of the Constitutional Assembly of 1925.
