The liberation of the capital restored sovereignty and independence to the country and freedom to Albanians. Unlike many other conquered countries, Albania was liberated by Albanians themselves without the intervention of Allied forces. During October and November 1944, Tirana turned into a real battlefield with battles that were firmly entrenched in collective memory, such as the one at Barricade Street. The National Liberation War ranked Albania between the United Anti-fascist Allies, led by the three Great Powers, the United States, the Soviet Union, and Great Britain.
